Primary Blog/Understanding Anxiety/Most Men Don’t Even Realise It’s Anxiety

If you’re a man who was fine before anxiety took over, it’s more than likely you didn’t even know what anxiety was or the power of the struggle.

You might have heard it in passing conversation, at work, or somewhere similar.

You might have even thought in the past:

“It can’t be that bad.”

And now you’re here searching for help.

When I first experienced anxiety at 14 years old, I briefly knew it was anxiety, but I was told to stop eating cheese and listen to calming CDs… that advice is from an expert.

At 21 years of age, when the stress built back up and one panic attack sent me into the depths of despair, I was left searching and seeking help desperately.

I sort of knew it was anxiety… but how?

How can this be me again?
And how can this be so painful?

Intrusive thoughts taking over my life, and my body reacting to every single dark thought, to name a few.

What if this is me forever?
What if I end up in a mental home?
What if I completely lose my life?
Why me?
I can’t cope?

Then what took over next…

Depersonalisation.

Where things become a blur, dream-like and unreal.

What if this is me forever?
I just want my life back…

The classic anxiety loop.

It took over my ability to operate.

I could no longer run my business, so I’d worry about that as well.

I used to be able to outrun a bad day, and now I could barely lift my arms.

My nervous system was that frayed it made me think I was useless.

Now I write this blog with none of these symptoms.

I’ve helped well over 1000 men through my book Turbulence and my Turbulence Operating System all as a result of anxiety coming back into my life.

How powerful is that?

Now what if…

What if you did the exact opposite to what you’ve been doing to get rid of anxiety?

So far you’ve been fighting, worrying, letting it take over your day.

You then drown yourself in the subject, and everything becomes about anxiety.

If you thought about a red Ford Focus every minute of the day, guess what…

You’ll see them everywhere.

That’s your brain making it a priority through your actions and habits.

So what if you did this instead:

Allowed all feelings to be
Cracked on with your day-to-day
Built a new focus

Habits are easier said than done.

But trust me when I say this  you’ll see the power of habits and living life when you’re out of this hell.

Anxiety explained in non-therapy talk:

Worry and stress build up
The stress erupts (one panic attack)
You resist and your nerves get frayed
You analyse and check in daily, adding more pressure
New symptoms creep in because you’re holding onto nervous energy that needs releasing
Physical and mental symptoms take over and ruin your life

All of this can stop if you do what I said above.

Allow your nerves to settle.
Have some courage to recover.

That is, without any BS therapy talk, a real way out of the anxiety loop without meds.

If this sounds like what you’re going through and you want a clear explanation of what’s happening, I wrote a book called Turbulence.

It’s the explanation I wish I had when this first hit me and nothing made sense.
